
The ICRS 2012 Organising Committee is pleased to announce the following grant opportunities available to
delegates to attend ICRS 2012.
Each link lists the eligibility criteria, application process and the relevant closing date for each grant. Please note
that you can apply for more than one grant, however successful applicants will only be awarded one grant.

The Organisers of ICRS 2012 have secured funding to support the cost of registration for a number of delegates to attend
ICRS 2012. A limited number of opportunities are also available for travel and accommodation expenses to be awarded to residents in developing countries.

ICRS 2012 Grants will be awarded to cover the costs of:
- Registration, and/or
- Travel at the most economical fare available, and/or
- Accommodation, at three star standard, for the duration of the conference.
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for this grant to cover your ICRS 2012 registration, you must:
- Be living outside of Australia;
- Have submitted an abstract for either poster or oral presentation at ICRS 2012. Abstract submission is
open until 1 October 2011.
To be eligible to apply for this grant to cover your travel and/or accommodation, you must:
- Be a resident of a developing country;
- Have submitted an abstract for either poster or oral presentation at ICRS 2012. Abstract submission is
open until 1 October 2011.
Selection Criteria
- Preference will be given to people whose abstract has been accepted
- Each application will be considered in the context of all applications. Grants will be awarded to ensure
appropriate representation across countries, gender and stage of career
- A number of grants will be targeted at graduate students (PhD, Masters or equivalent) and Early Career
Researchers (up to five years out from the award of PhD as at 8 July 2012, i.e. PhD awarded after 8 July
2007)

Costs to Applicant
- Meals, other than those included in the ICRS 2012 registration
- Travel insurance
- Visa and passport application related expenses
- Depending on level of support awarded, travel and accommodation
Your application should include:
- If you are a student, a letter confirming student enrolment at your institution;
- A letter of support from a mentor, director or supervisor detailing the need and relevance of your
attendance;
- A statement from you describing how attending will advance your reef science career (200 words or less);
- A statement from you of your financial need (100 words or less); and
- The source for funds for other expenses associated with your attendance (100 words or less).
You can also apply for the ISRS Student Award on this same form.
The application deadline is Thursday 1 December 2011.
You will be sent an email confirmation when your application is received.
If you are successful, you will be informed by Monday 16 January 2012, enabling successful applicants to still
register by 1 February 2012 which is the deadline for registration if presenting at the conference.

accommodation and registration cost of eligible students to attend ICRS 2012.

Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for this grant, you must be:
- A member of the ISRS at the time of the application. Visit www.coralreefs.org to become a
member;
- Presenting a paper or poster at ICRS 2012. Abstract submission is open until 1 October 2011;
and
- A student in 2012.
Selection Criteria
- Be able to show leverage of the Award to gain full support
- Abstract selected for oral or poster presentation
Inclusions
- Three star accommodation including breakfast for the duration of the Symposium
- ICRS 2012 registration
Costs to Applicant
- Meals, other than breakfast or those included in the ICRS 2012 registration
- Travel and travel insurance
- Visa and passport application related expenses
Your application should include:
- A letter confirming student enrolment at your institution;
- A letter of support from a mentor, director or supervisor detailing the need and relevance of your
attendance;
- A statement describing how attending will advance your reef science career (200 words or less);
- ISRS student award applicants only: A statement of financial need (100 words or less); and
- The source for funds for other expenses such as travel, insurance and a visa (100 words or less).

Lizard Island Field Trip Grants will be awarded to contribute towards the cost of attending one of the four Lizard Island Field Trips.

Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for this grant, you must:
- Have submitted an abstract for an oral or poster presentation at ICRS 2012.
- Be a resident of a country other than Australia who has not visited the Great Barrier Reef before OR be a PhD student enrolled at an Australian university in 2011 and/or 2012 who has not visited Lizard Island Research Station before.
- Be able to make a contribution of at least AU$600 towards the field trip.
Selection Criteria
- Abstract must have been accepted.
- Each application will be considered in the context of all applications. Preference will be given to people whose participation in the field trip will provide benefits to coral reefs other than personal career development.
- Grants will be spread among as many people as funding allows.
Inclusions
- Participation in one of the four Lizard Island Field Trips.
- Diving during the field trip, provided the applicant provides complying paperwork in time to secure one of the ten places for divers on each trip.
Costs to Applicant
- The contribution as advised by the applicant in the application, which must be at least AU$600.
- Applicants are asked to contribute more than the minimum if they can. This will enable a greater number of people to receive support.

Organisers are informed of the names of successful applicants, they will be informed directly. We will update
